Hey guys!
It's me Sara and today I just want to share an activity with you that I do everyday with Liam that it is super easy and has a couple of great benefits!
I'm going to call this activity "The toy surprise"
When Liam was younger and couldn't set up on his own I would put him in his high chair to do this activity, but if you want to have your baby sit on the floor that is totally fine! Now that he is older we do this activity on the floor or at his little activity table.
What I do is I place several different toys in front of him that are made out of several different materials. This gives him the option of exploring all the different textures and sounds that the toys make. This is the sensory benefit of this activity!
Another benefit of this activity is working on his fine motor skills, such as grasping, pinching, and holding! This is a big benefit of this activity and it is the main reason why I made sure to do it everyday when Liam was younger!
When Liam was 6 months old he had no interest in holding his own bottle when he was eating and this activity actually helped with this! So by working on his fine motor skills of holding and grasping everyday I started to notice that he was finally wanting to put his hands on his bottle when I was feeding him! To help him progress even faster I started putting empty bottles in with the mix of toys that he had to play with. This allowed him to get the feel of the bottle and become more comfortable with holding it when it came to eating!
Now with that being said, I did not and still don't use the same toys every single day. I normally switch them up every two to three days that way Liam has enough time to explore all the toys that are in front of him at that time! I even use items found around the house, such as measuring spoons, or water bottles!
As his fine motor skills got better I started putting toys in front of him that were a little bit harder to hold and challenged those skills a little bit more! So this is basically like a never ending, simple, and fun activity for baby!
Here is a picture of Liam doing this activity when he was much younger! Now for this group of toys as you can see I had a variety of items! I have posted a list of items seen in this picture below!

- cloth moose rattle
- cloth book with a variety of textures on it
- set of plastic keys
- banana toothbrush toy
- Oball rattle
- Oball ball
Liam loves this activity and it is so simple! So try adding it to your daily activity list and let us know how your babies like it!
Thanks for stopping by!
Until next time,
Sara
