If you follow me on social media you have seen me posting the last couple of days about how much Liam loves books! If you are wondering how I got him to love books so much this post will be for you! Now you might be a little disappointed because honestly I have no big secret as to how I accomplished this! It is literally easy little steps that I make sure to do everyday!

If you have read a couple of my other posts then you know that I have been reading to Liam since day one! When I say day one I mean since the day I found out I was pregnant with him! This might sound a little silly but I believe it was a great bonding experience for us as a family even while Liam was in my belly! The last couple of months of being pregnant when we would lay down at night and pull out a book to read, Liam would wiggle all around the entire time! That was when I really knew that reading to him right from the beginning was the best decision we ever made! He has literally been hearing us read to him his whole life! We have never gone a day without reading to him and now he knows it is just a part of our everyday family routine! So obviously step 1 is reading to him everyday, even if you think your kids are to young, trust me they aren't!

Another thing I do to make sure Liam knows that reading and books are fun and important is by always prioritizing this task! No matter what I am doing or where I am at if Liam brings me a book I will stop what I am doing and read it with him immediately! This shows him a couple of different things! First, it is showing him that I love reading and looking at books with him just as much as he loves reading and looking at books with me! Second, it shows him that I find reading to be very important because I am putting it above any other task I am trying to complete! Right now Liam is at that age where what we do is really beginning to have a huge impact on him, so this is a step that I take very seriously!

Another big thing I do is I always have books out and available for Liam to access easily! He has his own personal library in his room that is short enough for him to grab books off of, if this is something you don't have available in your house you should defiantly think about sitting one up! Liam loves this and he loves getting to pull books off the shelf! Now not only do I have his own personally library in his room, but I also have baskets of books set up around the house, such as the bathroom, living room, and our bedroom! This gives Liam access to books almost everywhere he goes in the house! I have noticed that if kids can easily access books they are more likely to get them out to read them!

Last but not least I take Liam to get books at the library once a week! I let him pick out books all on his own! We also go to our local libraries reading times, so if you have a local library in your area check to see if they have any reading times open to kids! We actually go to reading time twice a week! We go to our Movers and Shakers class at a near by local library in a bigger city on Tuesdays and then we go to reading time at our in town local library on Wednesdays! To you this might seem like a lot for a 1 year old and trust me if he didn't enjoy it I wouldn't do both, but Liam loves every second of it! He now associates the library as being a fun place and gets excited every time we pull up and get out of the car!

So there it is, everything I have done and I am doing to plant the seed of reading into Liam! If you have a child that loves books please feel free to share what you have done to help them grow that love! If you are working on getting your child to love reading and books and need more help then feel free to contact me! I would love to help you out as much as I can!

Thanks for stopping by guys! Be sure to check out my vlog going out on Friday!

Talk to you soon,

Sara
